HDR is an architecture, engineering, and consulting firm that specializes in projects such as bridges, water- and wastewater-treatment plants, and hospitals. The company also provides mechanical and plumbing services, construction and project management, and utilities planning. It operates across nearly 15 countries and has offices in over 200 global locations. The employee-owned company was founded as Henningson Engineering in 1917 to build municipal plants in the rural Midwest.

HDR is the 10th largest employee-owned company in the United. Engineering News-Record ranked HDR as the 7th largest design firm in the United States in 2019.
